First Group meeting

This is the first group meeting which we have had after deciding which song we will be using for the music video, the song we had decided to use for the video is Owl City's Unbelievable, and we already have some ideas for what we can in the video itself. These ideas mostly include just having multiple different shots and different scenes of us doing the activities which are listed within the lyrics itself.

Audience research:

For my first part of the audience feedback i had just asked the other students around the classroom on their opinions, we asked them what three words first came to mind when viewing the video, the main results which i had got included fun, upbeat and nostalgic. I had also asked them what kind of artists came to mind when viewing it and i was told that no other artists had really came to mind except this one. Finally i had asked them what kind of things we should improve on and i was told that the timing could be a little bit better.

The first show in the second scene was in the Drama room and was a close up of the main singer (Destiny) The second shot which we used in the Drama room was a long shot of the band performing so that we had everybody in the frame. The third shot that we used in the second scene was a mid shot focused back on the main singer again.  The second shot for the first scene was of the coke and mento's being used in the park to create a reaction. We then went to my house for the third scene and the first shot we did there was of everybody playing with the Nerf guns and firing at one another. The second shot which we used in my house was a mid shot of the tent with a no girls allowed sign on the front of it. The third shot which we performed in my house was a long shot of my cat being help up in the air so that everybody including the cat was in the frame.  The fourth shot which we used again was back in the drama room and was a close up of Sam on the keyboard.

Title: Its unbelievable Tag Line: As good as it gets

Synopsis: The entire song basically revolves around people re-living their childhood and doing things which they would have done as a child, this involves a multitude of different scenes of the main actors doing things from their youth such as watching VHS, climbing trees, Coke and Mentos as well as playing with dinosaur toys.  The original music video itself is entirely animated and done in a cartoon - like fashion, it is also worth noting that the entire song is very happy and upbeat and consists of everybody that is involved having fun and enjoying themselves.

Key Genre Conventions: This music video has multiple different genre conventions, the main ones being along the lines of childhood, having fun and enjoying life. Within the music video however there are also themes of nostalgia and being a child again throughout the music video, it is also worth noting that one of the key genre conventions through the music video is also just enjoying life.

This Pinterest board was created by both me and Destiny for our music video, all of our thoughts and themes are compiled onto this board to look back at and remember what our themes and ideas throughout the creation of the music video was. 

Initial ideas

One of my initial ideas was to make a music video where it would be the main signer walking down a street then locations switching as he is walking, the locations would be switching to the beat of the song. The main song which we were going to go with initially was "1,2,3,4" by the plain white T's however in the recommended section when viewing that song we finally found "unbelievable". 

The initial ideas also included us wanting to do something more fun than serious as we wanted to have fun when recording this as well as making a good music video, this help once we had found "unbelievable" as this is a pretty fun song and was pretty easy to come up with good ideas for. 

Information about the artist

Information about Owl City:

Owl city is an american electronic project that began in 2007, this project is one of many projects which have been set up by Adam young. This project mainly began getting popularity during 2009 with their six time platinum single "fireflies", the song fireflies was released within an album called "Ocean eyes". One of the songs within this album was debuted within Tim Burton film Alice in wonderland and another in legends of the guardians.

Their most recent album was titled "ultraviolet and the mobile orchestra" instead of releasing all of the songs as an album in one go he would instead release a steady flow of EP's as singles, the most recent one of these was released in june of 2015 and is titled "unbelievable", an animated music video was created for this and the song itself was performed with another artist known as Hanson.


Owl city's music is often described as indietronica or synth-pop and it is said that it belongs under the electronic music genre, Young has stated that he is most inspired by disco and European electronic music when it comes to producing his own. He also incorporates some of his christian faith into his music as he is a vocal christian.

I had researched a live performance of the song as well as the official music video in order to get a better idea of the style of the band members and the type of clothing they wear as well as the type of people that they are so that we can kind of mimic their style.

Contacting the artist

I had to contact the artist on my phone during the lesson as the school settings would not allow me to, so instead here is a screen shot from my phone of me contacting the artist and asking permission to use their song for the music video.

Before we had even chosen "Unbelievable"as our music video we wanted to do, me and Destiny had looked through many different songs and music videos on youtube before we had even settled, we had originally started un Youtube with searching up terms such as "original songs" and "non-copyright" music however we had decided that none of that was really helping us so instead we began to search up specific songs and then go through the recommended videos which were somewhat related to the song and eventually led to us finding "Unbelievable". 

When we began to start searching up specific songs we began with the Plain White T's as we know another group which had decided to actually use on of their songs so we decided that we would begin to look at the rest of their songs and see if there was anything else that we could use, this is one of the songs which caught our eye however we still decided to look in the recommendations for this one and keep searching to see if there was anything else.
